There are some California assets that are being divided in the divorce between the co-host of the TV show "The Talk," Aisha Tyler, and her husband of more than 20 years, Jeff Tietjens. However, rather than have the decision be made by a judge, the estranged couple was able to come to an accord in an amicable fashion.
The couple do not have children together. Tietjens is an attorney and was the party who initially filed for divorce.
On May 17, there was a stipulated judgment in their divorce. Tyler is required to pay Tietjens $500,000 up front and then $31,250 each month for the next four years. The total she owes in spousal support is $1.5 million. Through 2020, she also must pay $500,000 annually for his life insurance policy. These were the terms of a negotiated settlement agreement the couple reached in December.
California is a community property state, so if the two did not sign a prenuptial agreement, the earnings of both people throughout their marriage is considered shared marital property. Divorces involving significant assets like this one may be complex because they may include investments, homes, vehicles, valuable collections and even a business. Even if only one person has been running the business, the other person might be able to claim a part of it in a divorce. The couple may have a choice of selling the business or having to run it together after the divorce. In some cases, one person might suspect the other of dissipating or hiding assets. If this happens, the person may want to discuss the situation with the attorney and how the dissipation might be documented or the assets might be found.
