Details from the Griffith and Banderas divorce

On Behalf of Law Offices of John A. Guthrie | Dec 9, 2015 | High Asset Divorce

Since some celebrity marriages do not last long, California residents might be impressed that the union of Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas made it almost 20 years. The couple announced their separation after 19 years of marriage in July 2014 and finalized their divorce in July 2015. Details involving the couple’s split and settlement agreement have now been released.

According to divorce documents, Griffith will receive $65,000 per month in spousal support along with a painting by Picasso called “The Painter and His Model” and an Aspen home. Banderas was given other art as he is keeping one drawing by Picasso and one by Diego Rivera. Both spouses split the profit from selling their mansion in Los Angeles.

The pair married in 1996 but signed a post-nuptial agreement in 2004. Under this agreement, amounts earned by each from movies that were made between 2004 and 2014 must be split. This includes a number of films for Banderas like “Puss in Boots” and “Expendables 3”, but the actor will retain profits from some of his films like “The Mask of Zorro” and “Spy Kids.”

Banderas and Griffith have one teenage daughter together and are said to be on good terms after their divorce, and they were spotted at their daughter’s high school graduation in June 2015. Griffith has two other children, and this is her fourth divorce while it is the second one for Banderas.

Divorces involving significant assets are often complex, and in some cases the assets themselves may need to be appraised in order to determine their value for property division purposes. An attorney can often assist a divorcing spouse who is facing these types of issues.
