Why divorce is more common in August

On Behalf of | Aug 27, 2019 | Divorce

Research has found that August is a prime month for marriages in California and throughout the country to end. One reason is that many couples believe that the summer months will be the key to fixing their relationship. However, in most cases, this does not happen. Therefore, many couples choose to end their marriages as opposed to spending more time trying to fix them.

For some, the summer months actually put a brighter spotlight on their marital issues. This is because they can’t use their daily routines as a reason to ignore their problems. With the children out of school for several weeks, parents are forced to spend more time together. This extra family time could lead to disagreements or other disputes that simply can’t be resolved in a satisfactory manner.

Some choose to end their relationships at the end of the summer because they have already committed to take a vacation or visit relatives. Therefore, parents will decide to wait until after those commitments have been met before announcing a divorce. Furthermore, getting a divorce in August may allow the children enough time to adjust to their new reality before the holiday season starts. It can also give parents enough time to create a plan for dealing with the holidays as single individuals.

Those who choose to end their marriages may experience many emotions before, during and after the divorce process comes to an end. However, it is critical that people don’t let their feelings get in the way of negotiating a reasonable divorce settlement with the assistance of their respective family law attorneys.
